British Values at Widney
Our exciting curriculum at Widney actively promotes fundamental British values.
Democracy – I have a say in what happens within our school family
Our school community asked the Princes Trust to help make our conservation area an even better place.
We voted as a whole school on our chosen charity for Charity Week- it was close this year but the Acorns Hospice in Selly Oak won!
The rule of law – I know what is right and wrong and that there are consequences if I make a poor choice.
We work with PC Sally Wetton from Shirley Police. Recently we have designed considerate parking posters in Year 5.
As a school we have revised our positive behaviour policy and have clearer rewards and sanctions.
We celebrate good manners and positive behaviours in our assemblies! Our monthly Top Table at lunchtime!
Individual Liberty – I have the right to say, do and think what I want and the responsibility to accept the consequences of my actions
Eco Council and School Council- children prepare their speeches ready for their voters!
The whole school decided to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice as part of our 30th annual charity week and raised over £3400.
Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs – I know everyone is unique and I respect everyone
Widney is proud to have over seven different faiths within its school family.
We have connections with Christ the King Church(worship at Widney on Sundays)
Remembrance Day 2014- our very own Tower of London poppy tribute to injured soldiers all over the world.
Year 3,4,5 & 6 learn about all the different faiths in their RE lessons.
Year 3 learning about the Stone Age in an exciting hands on lesson.
Year 5 Viking Day- learning about the past and the legacy that was left behind.
